Governing cricket has been hard work..
first there was cricketers revolt of 1857. Many good administrators were lost. Hung from trees. Burnt as they slept. We got over that and the Gavaskars and Amarnaths.
Then there was the Accident.
Yes. The worse thing happened. India won the world cup.
We did everything we could. I swear there was no physio. Just a fat doctor who could barely read a pulse. That stupid Viv Richards. Everthing was going according to plan till that moment. Who told him to hit that shot? And that Kapil. Why did he have to take that catch?
They won. Some administrators were happy. Money was being made. i was new those days. Just been in the administration for twenty years. Even then i knew this did not bode well. Money changes everything.
Look at football and hockey. Their administrators can do what they feel like. We cant even throw out Ganguly without a 'We the People' special. And everyone except the Bangladeshis hate him. Other sports make enough money to support the basic creature comforts of their administrators. We just had to get greedy.
See what happened.. now there are calls for 'professionalizing' the board.
Its quite a crazy plan i tell you. Apparently, people will be paid. They dont have to steal money from the board. Exactly how the system works im not sure. Something about firing executives for lack of performance. I've never heard of anything funnier than that.
Here's the best part. Then politicians cant run the game. And pray what will politicians do with their time? Run the country? Hmph. As if they dont have better things to do.
Really . Priya Ranjan. Suresh Kalmadi. K.P.S Gill. They've done wonderful jobs. No one appreciates the hard work it takes to design a system where the players get nothing and the public doesnt care. Its an art i tell you.
An art.
p.s India thrash Bangladesh. World records are created. Everything goes back to what it was.
