Since their is nothing else to talk about.. i think i should educate the general public on hockey sticks..
Hockey sticks are a much vilified commodity.
There was a time where a man with a hockey stick carried on his shoulders the hopes and dreams of an entire nation. It's hard to imagine a sport which India used to dominate but history tells us there was a point in time where an indian felt undefeatable, invincible and supreme (basically like australians do today) because he could weild a hockey stick. Imagine and this is no fiction..we actually won olympic gold medals at a sport!
Then came the dramatic decline. And a hockey stick went from being the implement of an artist to the weapon of a goon. Worse than that, the weapon of a hindi movie goon
Sigh...
My first hockey stick was a second hand junior stick. There was tape over the label. I was chosen for the class team because i was the only boy whose mother was mad enough to go running and buy him a hockey stick in one hour. So i made the team.
I hoped and prayed that the hockey stick would have been a vampire. It wasnt. It was some shady brand.
Then in Class eleven i made the school team. I bought myself a Rakshak. Nice heavy stick. Good for a defender.
Then in university, corresponding to my promotion to a midfielder, i decided to go to the next level and i bought myself a Tiranga (i LOVE the concept of having a sports brand named after the national flag..it gives me goose pimples). It was an awesome stick..one ive scored tonnes of goals with. Then some bastard broke it.
Finally after two years, since ive signed up for division two hockey (club level) i decided to go get over the breaking of my love and get a new stick.
I didnt bother to check the brand. I just checked for what is known as 'feel'. The best way to choose a sports instrument. I bought the stick i liked the best..
Yup..it's a vampire! made by BAS.. the makers of Tendulkars' bats..
it's orgasmic.. a thing of beauty.. and ill tell you what..
we may suck at hockey.. but carrying that stick around still gives you a sense of power.
